My name is Mia Bealing-Rodrigues and I started playing Roller Hockey just over two years ago. When I first started training with Maidstone Roller Hockey Club, I was really nervous, as the sport is mainly dominated by boys. However, I realised that I didn’t need to be nervous and was fully accepted by the boys as part of the team.

After a few months, I started to attend National Training sessions in Peterborough every month, everybody starts off in level 1, however the Head Coach put me straight into Level 3. I have quickly progressed into Level 4 and sometimes also attend Level 5. I now attend both the Saturday and Sunday sessions, as I train in a separate Ladies session on the Sunday. I am really grateful to Family and Friends who have helped me attend all the training sessions.

Every year there are training camps held in Portugal, I was very fortunate to be able to go to both the ones held in February and June 2016, I think the experience really pushed me to try as hard as possible to achieve my goal of being on the England Ladies squad.

In November 2016, I was selected as part of the England Ladies U17 squad to attend the Euro Cup in Breganze, Italy. This was held on 15 – 18 December 2016, although we finished 8th we all did our very best against very strong opposition and are looking forward to next year when we will hopefully place a lot higher.

I am also second claim to Ely & Chesterton U15 team and will play for them if they are unable to field a full team.

Roller Hockey is really fast, play moves really quickly. As with most sports the result is not certain until the final whistle, anything can happen in those last few seconds. Although Roller Hockey is not a very well known sport, I love it and could not imagine playing anything else.
