On Friday night Katie Latham was awarded Thanet’s Sportswoman of the Year at the Winter Gardens, Margate. Thanet because, although she lives in Walmer/Deal, she swims and trains with Thanet Swim Club. Unfortunately it clashed with her Sir Roger Manwoods School sixth form dinner, so she was unable to attend.
Then on Saturday she was awarded the Kent Amateur Swimming Association Junior and overall Swimmer of the Year Award by Mrs Kay Grimshaw (President of Kent ASA) at The Spa, Beckenham.
These were in recognition of Katie’s continued dedication and achievements in the past year. Culminating in the highlight of representing Great Britain at the European Junior Championships in Poland earlier in the year where she brought home both relay teams (womens and mixed) on the anchor leg to a bronze and a silver respectively.
Katie’s main focus now is training towards the Commonwealth Games Trials being held in Glasgow in April.
She would also like to say a big thank you to the Kent Trust for Youth Sport which has recently supported her with a grant to help with the cost of training and competitions etc.
